These are used to protect airfields from partisan attacks, to protect coasts, and for general use in areas where large armies are not present like the Middle East. I like these armies, they are flexible and I can build plenty of them as any country, even Italy. In fact I try to not involve them in the attack, but to move them into the province after the enemy is defeated and the attacking armies rest. They are not meant to be used for offense by them selves. Together with A* armies these make up the bulk of my forces.
As Germany I can have about 15 of these with def leaders. Playing Germany I have enough leaders with def skills to head 15 of these armies, even if I have to start them at skill 1. I find this method avoid situations where all my armies in an area are exhausted and I have nothing to counter attack with. They are used to support other armies attacks. I do not use them to blitz, and try to not expose them to enemy attacks. These go under pz, off leaders, of which Germany has three. I get them up to 3 tanks in three armies by late 41. I use them to blitz.īy the start of the Soviet invasion I only manage to have one tank in three armies. These are the most expensive armies that I only built as Britain, Germany, and USSR. I intend to expand these armies at the same 2:1 ration to keep the combined arms bonus, but have not managed to do this in my games.
Under the best leaders, as Germany I build three of these armies under generals (later FMs) that have panzer, offensive, and one extra skill. My approach is to form the army around leader traits, and that it be flexible. Right now I am playing Germany and got to July of 43.
So far I have done three grand campaigns as Germany, Britain, and Japan, plus a few unfinished games, one as Italy and one as USSR. I am trying to train for multiplayer and try to set up my armies so I can shift forces quickly and so that death of a leader does not mess things up at a crucial time. Posters in this forum have brought up the topic of army composition several times before, so I will describe mine.
